The Little Spa That Could

We liked The Little Spa proprietor Jennifer Spring instantly – she had such an outgoing, friendly manner that we were more than happy to welcome her in for our at-home massage session. In fact, we would've been happy to have her stay for dinner afterwards!

After she had set her table up, Jennifer filled us in on what to expect from our lymphatic drainage massage session. She demonstrated what type of pressure to expect; the touch is much lighter than with a typical massage, as the purpose of this gentle bodywork technique is to encourage the circulation of the lymph system, thereby encouraging detoxification and reducing water retention. Jennifer explained that some people find the lymphatic drainage technique to be a little too stimulating at first, but then they become accustomed to the unique touch and enter into a deep relaxation. Of course, Jennifer did work a little more deeply where it was needed, specifically on the chronically tight spots in our back and neck, and she periodically encouraged deep breathing to help aid in the release of muscle tension. After she was finished, we guzzled plenty of water to maximize the detoxification benefits of the treatment.

Jennifer Spring is also a Certified Infant Massage Instructor, which meant baby got to enjoy a massage too! She supplied us with grapeseed oil (safe for baby's skin) and a comprehensive instructional booklet, and led us through a lesson. She demonstrates each massage technique on a life-size baby doll while the student follows suit with the baby. Jennifer is well versed in the art of infant massage, and had plenty of insights to share about babies in general – advice that any frazzled new parent would be happy to receive. And for parents of a different sort, Jennifer provides doggie massage as well!
